“This is crazy,” as it turns out, is something I often find myself saying in the midst of an adventure. It might be said while sailing in big air while other boats have gone in, or winching the jeep back up onto the trail, or stumbling around a remote city looking for some where awesome to catch a drink and conversation. But it is usually said while laughing, and feeling very, very alive.

I started this blog because after two years of COVID induced homebody-ness, much of it spent getting deeper and deeper into photography, my wife and I said “to hell with it” and finally pulled the trigger on going on our much planned and dreamed of trip to Africa. I wanted a place to share the story, so here we are.

This one really does feel mad – COVID is raging, fueled by the Delta variant, border controls are tight, the world is an uncertain place. We agonized over this decision, every step. But now we are on the ride, and once again, I’m laughing (behind my mask) and just loving the ride.

I may add other stories later, either as new adventures evolve or as I recount older ones. These journal blogs always seem a little (or entirely) self centered – the hubris to think anyone cares! But I will try to be a worthy story teller and entertainer in the hopes that, if you’ve come this far, you’ll find it at least somewhat worth your while.

Thanks for coming along!
